Female leaders in Australia toast to GMID during the 17th International Inner Wheel Convention currently taking place in Melbourne
Event professionals are today celebrating the third annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), an industry-wide initiative to showcase the value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, business and communities.
First launched in 2016 by industry coalition Meetings Mean Business, the initiative continues to gain momentum. Meeting professionals from around the world participate in the international day of advocacy, with more than 120 events held across six continents in 2017.
This year, Meetings Mean Business is teaming up with Meeting Professionals International (MPI) to present a free, 12-hour live stream of GMID events taking place around the world.
This virtual event begins at 6am Central Daylight Time (7pm in Singapore) and aims to demonstrate the power, reach and scale of the global meetings industry and feature interviews with industry leaders, behind the scenes content, CMP-eligible educational sessions and more.
In Australia, female industry leaders celebrated GMID18 while attending the 17th International Inner Wheel Convention currently taking place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
International Inner Wheel is one of the largest women's service voluntary organisations in the world, with aims to promote friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service, and foster international understanding.
Melbourne Convention Bureau chief, Karen Bolinger, said it’s ideal that such an important event takes place on GMID.
“It’s significant that this conference falls on Global Meetings Industry Day, where the industry highlights the value of business events across the world. The International Inner Wheel Convention is the ideal event to demonstrate how business events bring people together, foster relationships, drive positive outcomes and support communities,” she said.
Meetings Mean Business is also providing a toolkit, along with other resources, to help event professionals take their messages to the grassroots level and engage with local communities and governments. This year's tagline is "Real results, real impact, all around the world".
