It will be a first for the country to host a new and large-scale cruise ship year-round when the luxury cruise liner ports its inaugural vessel, Genting Dream, in Singapore from December 3, 2017.
The 151,300-tonne Genting Dream is a floating, luxurious integrated resort purpose-built for the Asian market. Constructed in Germany, she will call at more than 10 ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam in 2018.
Known as the gateway to Southeast Asia, Singapore is ideal for the development of itineraries that can reach multiple countries within a convenient five-night cruise. “Singapore’s prime geographic location makes it the ideal homeport for Genting Dream to cruise to popular as well as new ASEAN destinations,” said Thatcher Brown, President of Dream Cruises.
“This historic deployment underscores Southeast Asia’s potential as one of the world’s prime cruising destinations. As the ASEAN lead coordinator for cruise development, Singapore will continue working closely with our neighbours to grow the cruise industry in this region,” shared Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board.
As the Asian cruise industry continues to grow, Genting Dream will increase available cruise days in Singapore by approximately more than 20 percent in 2018.
Apart from cultural attractions of nearby Southeast Asia destinations, Dream Cruises guests who embark on Genting Dream in Singapore will get to experience a host of entertainment and dining options in luxury, including meeting and event facilities for the corporate groups.
Genting Dream will feature 142 suites, two duplex Garden Penthouses, an outdoor Zouk nightclub that is available for private functions, a comprehensive Dreamscape educational and enrichment programme; Crystal Life health and wellness facilities; 1,100 sq m of duty free shops; a six-slide waterpark, ropes course; the world’s first Johnnie Walker House at sea, the world’s first Penfolds flagship Wine Vault at sea; and celebrity chef restaurant Bistro by Mark Best.
Starting December 3, 2017, to the end of March 2018, Dream Cruises will offer a range of two-night weekend cruises and alternating five-night Sunday cruises from Singapore to destinations in the Straits of Malacca and in the Java Seas. The five-night Straits of Malacca Cruise will feature the popular Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Phuket itinerary as well as a brand new five-night cruise in the Java Sea to Surabaya and North Bali, capable only with the high-speed design of Genting Dream, which can sail at over 23 knots.
Passengers can also choose to combine the Straits of Malacca and Java Sea cruises for a 12-night cruise experience, with the option of spending a weekend either on board the ship or at a hotel in Singapore.
From April to October 2018, new itineraries will offer new destinations in the South China Sea and the Java Sea.
Dream Cruises’ second 151,300 tonne cruise ship “World Dream” is currently being built and is scheduled for its inaugural sailing in November 2017 from Singapore to Hong Kong.
Genting Hong Kong, parent company of Dream Cruises, has led the development of an ongoing commitment to the Asia cruise industry by introducing Star Cruises in Singapore 23 years ago. With the two brands, Dream Cruises and Star Cruises, Genting Cruises will offer the largest cruise capacity days in Singapore and Asia by the end of 2017.
